Night time

I wanted to try some night long exposures while we were by the sea. One morning, I left our B&B early to find out what a good spot would be for night time pictures, knowing I would be back to set up the camera and tripod in the dark. I returned to the chosen location in the evening just before it was totally dark. I started to take long exposures but it was still too bright. I waited until it was absolutely dark to try again and took a few pictures. After a few shots, by battery started to show signs of weaknesses... and that's when I remembered I had left my spare batteries in a different camera bag!!! grrrrr. I contemplated going back to the B&B when I realized my flash light was also loosing its battery! I was not having a good time... I had to use the little light my cell phone could provide to find my way through the tall grasses, thorns and rocks, camera bag on one shoulder and tripod on the other. Back at the B&B, I was in no mood to go back out again, even with new batteries... We went back to Paris the next day, so no other pictures were taken. To top it all, the pants I was wearing that night went into the wash with the cell phone that had lit my way back to the B&B!! No more phone either....

The picture: The interesting point about it, is that it was taken after 11:00 pm, in complete darkness, and yet the 30 second exposure recorded the last little bit of sun.

The coast of Brittany has a great variety of rock formations and colours, ranging from rough to smooth, and from pink to grey... Here, some had been piled along the path.

While hiking the coast, we enjoyed some fantastic views where the sea and the sky become one. Minutes after a thunder shower, the sun came back and illuminated the sea.

Brittany is notorious for its uncertain weather. The light changes constantly, bringing the landscapes or seascapes to life. When it comes to taking pictures, it is a matter of getting just the right light or waiting for it.

Here's one where I was waiting for a ray of sun shine...

Near the Pointe du Groin, the sea has interesting shades of blue and green, with some interesting rock formation emerging from the water here and there.

It did not take long for those fishermen to pack up their gears as the tide was coming up, surprisingly fast. 15 minutes later, the rocks were covered with water.

Living in Paris can be hectic and noisy. So we dedicated our summer vacation to hiking and enjoying some quiet moments. We first went to Brittany and hiked the coast on the 'Sentier des Douaniers'. We started in Cancale from where we had a view on the Mont St Michel's bay.

The one thing that bothers me in this image is how the clouds seem to be on an angle.

For a month, parts of the Seine riverbanks are turned into a beach with fun activities for everyone. Misters are also installed to cool people when it gets really hot and every one enjoys getting a little wet.
